Here is how. The round things are magnets. The ones on the back of the bag are hidden under the fabric of the back pocket. You can turn the messenger bag upside down, the iPad will not fall off. (Do not go crazy here. Yes, you can shake it off). The interface snap-on cover can be changed to accommodate other tablets. The magnetic attachment works well also when using your bag with the iPad in the laptop mode. The combo is more stable: the iPad will not slide off.
